Ingredients

Bread Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F) Ensure the water is warm, not hot, to prevent killing the yeast.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded Asiago cheese Feel free to use other cheeses for variations.
  • 1 tablespoon mixed Italian herbs (basil, oregano, thyme) Adjust herbs according to preference.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  • Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add Asiago cheese and Italian herbs, kneading until well incorporated.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or rolls. Place on a baking sheet.
  • Let rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Store bread at room temperature in a paper bag for crispy crust or in the refrigerator wrapped to maintain moisture.
